Test your hard disk for errors

You can help solve some computer troubles and progress the production of your computer by making assured that your hard disk has no errors.

1. Unlocked Computer by clicking the Start button, then clicking Computer.
2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you wish for to check, and next click Properties.
3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password, verification, type the password or provide confirmation.

To repeatedly repair problems with files, folders that the scan find, select Automatically fix file method errors. or else, the disk check will just report problems but not fix them.

To perform a methodical disk check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan attempts to locate and repair physical errors on the hard disk itself, and it can take much longer to complete.

Check for together file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file process errors and Scan for an attempt recovery of bad sectors.

4. Click Start.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take more than a few minutes. For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it's checking for errors.

Note

Supposing you select automatically fix file process errors for a disk that is in use (for example, the partition that contains Windows), you'll be encouraged to reorganize the disk check for the next time you restart your computer.

The manufacturer of your hard drive will also have their own proprietary tools for doing hard drive diagnostics. You can locate the tools on the manufacturer's website - they will help you diagnose problems with the disk surface and usually check the HDD.

Diagnostic software:

There are beside freeware utilities available on the web that will let you know when your hard drive is about failing. Use a third-party software for hard drive diagnostics if:

• You have already run chkdsk, and are unmoving experiencing serious solve problems that make you suspect disk surface mistake imminent danger hard drive failure;
• You do not know the generator of your hard drive and are not confident of taking apart your computer  find out;
